About 40% of breast cancer survivors use prescription medications to alleviate sleep problems, but these medications can increase their risk of bone fractures, according to new Kaiser Permanente Southern California research.

Through her role as an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Debbie Malden is expanding her training and expertise in applied epidemiology at Kaiser Permanente. In this capacity, she receives on-the-job training and mentoring from scientists within both the Department of Research & Evaluation and the CDC. One study she recently led found that infections with the COVID-19 delta variant increased rapidly among Kaiser Permanente Southern California members from March 4 to July 21, 2021.
