We’re trying to find vaccines for COVID-19.
Your participation could help.
This study has currently reached enrollment goals and is no longer accepting new volunteers. Please check our home page for study updates and any future COVID-19 clinical trials.
Your Contribution
Every vaccine and medicine we have today was studied in hundreds and usually thousands of people. Research studies rely on volunteers and currently, there are no approved vaccines available to prevent COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) and the disease has spread across the world. Each and every person involved in clinical research plays a powerful role. Volunteering for this study can make a difference as we try to find potential vaccines to prevent COVID-19.
About This COVID-19 Study
This study will involve testing an investigational COVID-19 vaccine against a placebo (inactive substance). Both the vaccine and placebo will be given by injection.
What to expect
You will be randomly assigned (by chance) to receive the study vaccine or placebo (inactive substance). This assignment will be made by a computer and not by the study team. Neither you nor the study doctor will know if you are receiving a study vaccine or a placebo. In the event of an emergency, the study team can quickly find out this information if needed.
Each participant will receive 2 injections. Participants will receive their injections about 3 weeks apart. The study team will be able to schedule the appointments.
Study visits
- At each study visit, the study team will ask about your general health and complete study procedures such as a physical exam or taking your blood pressure
- On injection days, the study vaccine or placebo will be given through an injection into the muscle of the upper arm and a nasal swab will be collected
- After the injection, you will be asked to wait at the study site for at least 30 minutes
- There are 6 planned visits, and blood samples will be taken at 5 of the visits. Each time, 25 mL (5 teaspoons) of blood will be collected. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, 50mL of blood will be collected.
- The study team will provide you with nasal swabs and instruct you on how to take a swab from your nose at home if you experience symptoms that might be caused by COVID-19 while enrolled in this study
