Biography

Dr. Maheen Humayun is an infectious disease epidemiologist and postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Research & Evaluation. Her research interests include infectious diseases, molecular epidemiology, health equity, and vaccine efficacy study designs.

Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Humayun worked as an HIV Cluster Detection and Response Fellow at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In this role, she analyzed national HIV surveillance data to detect rapid HIV transmission across socio-demographic groups and developed data collection tools for health departments using REDCap. Her doctoral research was globally focused on tuberculosis epidemics in both low- and high-burden countries including the United States, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, and Pakistan. She brings experience to her new role with patient surveillance data, Mycobacterium tuberculosis genotyping data, and qualitative data to characterize racial/ethnic disparities, gender disparities in clinical presentation of TB in an HIV high-burden setting, and gaps in surveillance in resource-limited settings.
