Research Interests

Dr. Negriff uses a biopsychosocial approach to understand the pathways that lead from child maltreatment to mental health and risky behaviors, including depression, trauma symptoms, substance use, and sexually risky behavior. The bulk of her research has focused on explicating biological mechanisms (such as pubertal timing, epigenetics, and neuroimaging) and social mechanisms (such as social support and social media use) that increase vulnerability to mental health problems for children and adolescents who experience trauma.

One of the goals of Dr. Negriff’s research is to develop comprehensive models of developmental risk that will provide targeted points for intervention.
