Research Interests

Dr. Katia Bruxvoort is an infectious disease epidemiologist and post-doctoral research fellow for the Department of Research & Evaluation. She is a co-investigator on several post-licensure vaccine safety and effectiveness studies (hepatitis B vaccine, shingles vaccine, influenza vaccines). Other current research includes understanding patterns of antimicrobial use and resistance in urinary tract infections and improving uptake and adherence to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV. She has broad interests in infectious disease prevention, targeted treatment, and the intersection of social needs and health. Before joining Kaiser Permanente Southern California in 2017, Dr. Bruxvoort worked in Tanzania as an epidemiologist with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She led large-scale studies to evaluate the national rollout of malaria rapid diagnostic tests and tested novel interventions to improve adherence to antimalarial treatment.
